Rodney WrightRodney Reed Wright, 85, of Rushville died at 4:38 p.m. Oct. 13, 2018, at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy.

He was born Oct. 8, 1933, on a houseboat near Knapp Island, in Mason County, a son of Theodore Reed and Thosey Ellen Smith Wright. He married Barbara McClure on March 31, 1956, in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Allen (and Jane) Wright of Rushville; one daughter, Pam Proffitt of Springfield; one foster son, who he befriended and mentored, Randy (and Carolyn) Cromwell of Gilman; one brother, Ted (and Judy) Wright of Grand Junction, Colo.; one sister, Thursa May (and David) Edwards of Rushville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Francis, Jack and Charlie Wright; and two sisters, Faye E. Perry and Donna M. Smykal.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

He worked on tow boats for John H. Hays River Transport and later for Ruttman Construction in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He helped build the Oscar Mayer Plant and then went to work there. He retired as a supervisor from Cargill Meat Solutions in 1995. After retiring he floated down the Illinois River with his brothers Ted and Charlie and the following year with Charlie and friend Richard Stambaugh.

He was a life-member of the Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and Voiture #1100 40 et 8, where he held a state office. He also was Boy Scouts of America Scoutmaster for Troop 128 and a member of Rushville Church of Christ “Christian”.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Jason Triplett officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery with Military Honors by Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and a U.S. Army Honor Detail.
