John "Bill" WinstonJohn W. “Bill” Winston, 79, of Monmouth, formerly of Beardstown and Rushville, died at 11:55 a.m. Nov. 15, 2017, at Roseville Rehab and Health Care in Roseville.

He was born Dec. 16, 1937, in Schuyler County, a son of Edward and Dorothy Workman Winston. He married Sondra Bollinger on Nov. 17, 1956, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, John (and Carol) Winston of Monmouth; one daughter, Jennifer Winston of Monmouth; one sister, Beverly Burgard of Rushville; one brother, Jack (and Betty) Winston of Rushville; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Junior Winston.

He was a bookkeeper and tax preparer for over 44 years in Beardstown. He also farmed in Schuyler County for 20 years.

He was in the U.S. Army from 1958-62, serving in the 71st Artillery Division, rank of (SP5).

He was a member of the Schuyler County Farm Bureau. He was treasurer of several drainage districts in Schuyler and Cass counties. He also served on the Schuyler County School Board and coached baseball for the Browning Sprigs minor league and Little League teams in Rushville.

Bill and Sondra were longtime Rushville and Beardstown residents, eventually moving to Monmouth in 2015.

Services were held Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Beardstown VFW Post #1239 with full military rites were accorded. Cremation rites were accorded following the service.
