John WorthingtonJohn Thomas Worthington, 69, of Rushville, died at 9:07 a.m. April 27, 2015, at his residence.

He was born June 12, 1945, in Chicago Heights, a son of William Edward and Mary Anna Montooth Worthington.

He is survived by three daughters: Penny (and Morgan) Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz., Mindy (and Chris) Trotter of Colchester and Samantha (and Edward) Klumb of Wyoming, Ill.; three sisters, Elizabeth Ann “Libby” (and James) Johnson of Greer, S.C., Susan Ellen (and Jim) Krasula of Greensboro, N.C., and Maria (and Kent) Wildrick of Carthage; two brothers, James M. (and Jody) Worthington and William R. (and Debbie) Worthington, both of Rushville; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Worthington.

He graduated from Rushville High School in 1963. He attended Illinois College in Jacksonville, and graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1966.

He was in the U.S. Army from 1968-70 during which time he served a full tour of duty in Vietnam. After returning home, he was associated with his father at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville. In 1983, he purchased the Sargent Funeral Home in Macomb, that he operated as the Sargent-Worthington Funeral Home for many years. He worked as a funeral director for various firms in Las Vegas for several years, before returning to Rushville to assist his brothers with the family business, where he was senior partner. John was a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer 48 years.

He was baptized in Rushville First United Methodist Church and was a member of First Christian Church “Disciples of Christ” in Rushville.

He was a member of the Schuyler American Legion Post #4 where he served as Chaplain. He was a life member of Macomb VFW Post #1921, The Society of 40 Men Et 8 Horses Veterans’ Organization, He was also a member of the Rushville Lodge #9, AF & AM, Rushville Commandary #56 Knights Templars, Rushville Moose Lodge #506 and Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. David Haney officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery with Military Honors by a U.S. Army Honors Detail and Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday with Masonic Services by Rushville Lodge #9 at the conclusion of the visitation at the funeral home.
