David R. Walters, 58, of Astoria died at 9:20 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2005, at his home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1946, in Pope, Miss., a son of Richard and Ethel Pritchard Walters. He married Jeanette Mercer in 1968 in Vermont.

Surviving are one daughter, Katy (and Chris) Smith of Astoria; one grandson; four brothers, R. D. of Coffeeville, Miss., John and Randy, both of Batesville, Miss.; three sisters, Pauline Wolfe of Sardis, Miss., Pamela Barlow of Batesville and Pat McNutt of Lambert, Miss.; and two special friends, Pat Yost of Havana and Jeanette Walters of Astoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ricky; and one sister, Peggy Walters.

He was an Army veteran, with the rank of specialist 4, serving from June 1, 1970, to Oct. 31, 1971.

He worked at Skiles Fertilizer and Two Rivers Farm Service for 30 years.

Services were held Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Bob Spencer officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Astoria Fire Department Toys for Tots, McDonough District Hospital Hospice or Astoria Lions Club.
