Ronald Devere “Bud” Warner, 74, a life-time resident of Carthage, died at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, 1995, at Memorial Hospital here.

He was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Astoria, a son of Howard William and Alma Elizabeth (Guilliams) Warner. He married Margaret Ione Robinson in April 1942 in Palmyra, Mo. She died in 1971. He later married Marjorie Phillips Wood in October 1977 in Carthage. She preceded him in death in 1985. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ronald Lynn Warner who died in 1985; and one sister, Evelyn Mae Derry.

He is survived by friend and companion, Liz Doyle of Carthage; one daughter, Peggy Ellen Randall of Quincy; one stepdaughter, Sallie Flesner of Carterville; one stepson, Richard D. Wood of rural LaHarpe; one brother, Lewis Edward Warner of Bushnell; one sister, Maxine Bennett of Ethel, Mo.; one stepsister, Martha Lee Ulmer of Lewistown; four grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Mr. Warner was of the Methodist faith. He served in World War II. He helped establish a beachhead on the Marshall Islands, served at Pearl Harbor and New Guinea as well as many other places. He was discharged in 1946 and was welcomed home by a four-year-old son. He went into farming with his father after trying a career as an electrician and a factory worker. He continued to farm the family farmstead until his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Warner was active in the Carthage VFW Post 5117 where he had been a member since 1942. He was a life member of AmVets and a charter member of the Carthage Eagles Club and a member of Phillip Hartzell American Legion Post 74 of Carthage.

Funeral services were held this morning at Lamporte Funeral Home of Carthage with Rev. Phil M. Nevius officiating. Burial was in Harmony Cemetery near Carthage. A full military service was held at the graveside by Carthage VFW Post 5117 and Phillip Hartzell American Legion Post 74.
