Vivian Wessels

Vivian B. Wessels, 83, of Galesburg, died at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1995, at St. Mary Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 20, 1911, in Abingdon, a daughter of Noble and Rachel Mae Courson Lewis. She married Charles R. “Dick” Wessels on Oct. 2, 1930, in Galesburg. He died Jan. 21, 1977. One grandson also preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son, Charles R. “Dick” Jr. of Hendersonville, Tenn.; one daughter, Mrs. Herb (Mary Lou) Boone of Galesburg; one brother, Merle Lewis of Summum; one sister, Evelyn Smith of Oquawka; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She and her husband owned and operated the former Dick’s Lunch restaurant for six years. She later worked for Admiral Maytag Co. for 20 years. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Funeral services were held Saturday at her church with Rev. James McAteer officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Hinchliff-Pearson West Galesburg Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
