VeteranRussell L. Walters Of Astoria Dies

Russell L. Walters, 72, of Astoria, died at 2:05 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 1990, at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., from injuries received in a traffic accident near Atoka, Okla. about two weeks ago.

He was born June 17, 1917, near Astoria, a son of Solomon and Minnie Danner Walters. He married Anne Korte in 1943, in St. Louis County, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Kenneth N. Walters, and two granddaughters, Abbey and Carrie Walters, all of Rushville.

He was preceded in death by one son, Steve Walters, and one brother, Orley Walters.

He was a member of the Astoria United Methodist Church, Astoria American Legion Post 25 and Schuyler County 40 et 8. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

Before his retirement, he owned and operated Russell Walters Sealtest Distributors for a number of years. He also was a school bus driver for Astoria Community District Schools and was an Astoria Village Trustee for three terms.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the Astoria United Methodist Church with Rev. Terry Westerfield officiating. Burial will be in the Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Astoria Township Cemetery Association.

Russell Walters Dies In Oklahoma

Relatives in this area received word of the death of Russell Walters in Tulsa, Okla. early this morning in St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. from injuries received in a traffic accident near McAlister, Okla. while on his way to Texas to spend the winter.
