Edith Wherley Of Vermont Dies

Mrs. Edith Wherley, 86, of Vermont, died at 3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 1990, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born Oct. 15, 1903, in Kerton Township, Fulton County, a daughter of William Riley and Josephine Byers Salisbury. She married Don Plate. He preceded her in death. She later married Floyd Wherley and he also preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are four nephews, Willard Shields of Vermont, Bennie Salisbury of Centralia, Mo., Laurence Salisbury of Sedona, Ariz., and Chester R. Salisbury of Paoli, Pa.

She was a member of the Past Chief’s Club in Astoria and American Legion Auxiliary Post 26 in Vermont. She formerly belonged to Aster Temple, Pythian Sisters, in Astoria, until it closed.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Jim Comstock officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shawgo’s. Burial will be in the Astoria Cemetery.
