Willard Shields, 84, of Vermont died at 11:15 p.m. Oct. 23, 2007, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Oct. 3, 1923, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, the son of Forrest and Dollie Salisbury Shields. He married Wandalee Strode on March 29, 1947, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Lynn (and Ed) Bubb of Quincy; and two grandchildren.

He was a veteran in the United States Navy, where he served as Fireman Second Class from 1945 to 1946.

He was an electrician for Threll Brock for 25 years. He then became owner and operator of Shields Electric, until he retired in the early 90s.

He was a volunteer for Vermont Fire Department for over 40 years and a member of Carrol Rankin American Legion Post #26 of Vermont for over 60 years.

Services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Robert Green officiating. Burial was in Vermont Cemetery.
