VeteranDean Waggoner Dies At Age 74

R. Dean Waggoner, 74, a lifetime Astoria resident, died suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 5 p.m. at his home of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Waggoner was born in Astoria Oct. 9, 1895, the son of James D. and Sue Cummings Waggoner. On Sept. 6, 1921, he married Stella Elgin. She survives.

He was a member of the Astoria United Methodist Church, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and was a veteran of World War I. He was a retired employee of the Spoon River Electric Cooperative.

In addition to his widow he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lois Walker of Peoria and Mrs. Ethel Mae Stephens of Astoria; one son, Jack Waggoner of Macomb; two sisters, Mrs. Fern Farwell of Honolulu, Hawaii and Miss Lucy Waggoner of Macomb; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Preceding him in death were one sister and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. James Elder officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.
