Carl Whittenberg Dies Feb. 3

Carl M. Whittenberg, 65, auditor of Astoria Township, died Tuesday night, Feb. 3, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. He had been a resident of Astoria 45 years.

Born in Richview April 25, 1904, a son of George and Maggie Stancil Whittenberg, he married Beulah Benton Nov. 24, 1927. She died in 1969.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Shirley McCombs of Pekin; two brothers, John of Chesterfield, Mo., and George of East St. Louis, two sisters, Mrs. Nell Murphy and Mrs. Geraldine Blankenship, both of St. Louis, and two grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.

He was a member of Astoria Church of the Brethren and of the Astoria Township Republican committee, and was employed by the Illinois State Highway Department.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Astoria Church of the Brethren with Rev. D. Arnold Naff officiating. Burial was in the Astoria Cemetery.
