Irene VaughnIrene Vaughn, 87, of Rushville died at 12:07 a.m. Dec. 13, 2020, at her home.

She was born Sept. 22, 1933, in Rushville, a daughter of Truman and Elizabeth Illman Estes. She married Eldon Vaughn on Feb. 26, 1955, in Rushville. He survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Gale (and Jaci) Vaughn of Jacksonville, and Gary (and Debbie) Vaughn, Ronald (and Annette) Vaughn and Donald (and Angel) Vaughn, all of Rushville; two daughters, Vicki Vaughn of Table Grove and Beth (and Neal) Stambaugh of Browning; one sister, Betty (and Larry) Paisley of Rushville 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Beth Vaughn; and two sisters, Mary Frances Cunningham and Joan Rice.

She was a graduate of Rushville High School and attended Greenville College. She first worked at Mickleberry’s in Rushville. For 25 years, she was a Certified Nursing Assistant at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville, retiring in 2004. She also was a homemaker and helped on the family farm.

She was a member of Hope Church, formerly Rushville Free Methodist Church.

Private family services will be held at Hope Church in Rushville with Pastor David Ball officiating. Burial will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery. An informal visitation without the family present will be held from noon to 6 p.m Tuesday, Dec. 22 at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. A recording of the service will be available on the funeral home website after 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23.

Memorials may be made to her church or McDonough District Hospital Hospice.
