Carolyn G. VanOrder, 81, of Macomb died at 5:05 a.m. April 6, 2017, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Macomb.
She was born April 16, 1935, in Table Grove, a daughter of Frank and Irene Kirkpatrick Barkley. She married Forrest Newcombe in 1954 in Ipava. She later married Walter C. “Sonny” VanOrder on June 29, 1985, in Vermont. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 2005.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Michael Newcombe; two grandchildren; and one brother, Dr. Robert Barkley.
Surviving are one daughter, Michelle (and Joseph) Rossmiller of Macomb; one sister, Virginia Doxstader of Macomb; two nieces whom she raised, Sarah Barkley of Block Island, R.I., and Ann Barkley of the state of Virginia; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She retired in 2011 from Western Illinois University where she was clerk for Student Housing and Dining Services.
She was a life member of the Ipava Order of The Eastern Star.
Graveside services were held Monday at the Ipava Cemetery with Pastor Doug Krukewitt officiating. Eastern Star Services were held by the Ipava Order of the Eastern Star Lodge. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
