Loretta VanDyke

Loretta M. VanDyke, 83, of Cuba was pronounced dead at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She died from injuries suffered in a single-car accident on Illinois Route 97 just north of Cuba.

She was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Cuba, a daughter of John W. and Cora Ward Poppleston. She married Russell R. VanDyke on Sept. 18, 1935, in Cuba. He died April 10, 1985.

Six brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Raymond (and Dorothy) of Stratford, Va., and John (and Connie) of Ipava; two daughters, Patricia (and Richard) Morse of Lake City, Fla., and Daisy Williams of Florida; one sister, Mary Sowers of Peoria; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was of the Christian faith.

She was a member of Russell Smith American Legion Post Auxiliary in Cuba for more than 50 years.

Services were held Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Rev. Michael Morse, her grandson, officiating. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery.
