John Van DykeJohn W. Van Dyke, 58, of Ipava died at 5:17 p.m. Aug. 11, 2007, at his home.

He was born May 31, 1949, in Canton, a son of Russell and Loretta Poppleston Van Dyke. He married Connie A. Ritter on March 19, 1971. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Jerud R. Van Dyke of LeRoy, Jordan J. (and Julie) Van Dyke of Galesburg and Jacob W. Van Dyke of Ipava; one brother, Raymond (and Dorothy) Van Dyke of Florida; two sisters, Pat (and Rich) Morse of Lake City, Fla., and Daisy Williams of Texas; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the Army. He served a second term in the Army at Fort Steward, Ga.

He worked in janitorial services at Western Illinois University in Macomb, last working in July 2005.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at Cuba Cemetery with Rev. Amy Wharton officiating. Military rites were accorded by Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba was in charge of arrangements.
