Gary TrimmerGary A. Trimmer, 69, of Astoria died at 5:20 p.m. Aug. 15, 2017, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born March 12, 1948, in Havana, a son of William Chester and Alma Elizabeth Surratt Trimmer. He married Mildred H. Hickman on April 5, 1975, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Tammy (and Terry) Hill of Astoria; one stepson, David Edward Derry of Rushville; five sisters, Cindy Sheely of Ottawa, Joyce Trimmer-Lindsey of Jacksonville, Patsy (and Mike) Behl of Auburn, Billie Jo Clayton of Macomb, and Carol Snyder of Jacksonville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Brady Hammack; one brother, Roy Eugene Trimmer; one sister, Lillie Kruger; and one stepson, Mark Derry.

He was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1966-75.

He was a commercial painter, sandblaster and tree trimmer for many years retiring due to ill health.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Cody Stinnett officiating. Burial will follow in Sheldons Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.
