JEANNE (FUQUA) THURMAN

Jeanne Fuqua Thurman, 84, of Rushville died at 7:50 p.m. Aug. 26, 2015, at St. John’s Hospice in Springfield.

She was born July 3, 1931, in Quincy, a daughter of Lawrence E. and Carrie L. Allen Fuqua. She married Jerry M. Thurman on June 1, 1951, in Rushville. He survives.

Also surviving are five children, Jacqueline (and Brian) Sittley of South Bend, Ind., Janet (and A. Joseph) Royer of Augusta, Jeff Thurman and Jon (and Lorraine) Thurman, both of Rushville, and Judy (and John) Karl of Athens; one sister (twin) Joanne Grate of Rushville; nine grandchildren; four step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, nine step great-grandchildren; and two step great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Downs, Lillian Ross, Laura Toland and Marjorie Tolle Beghtol.

She attended the Pokeberry School and graduated from Rushville High School in 1950.

She worked at T. Henry Dean’s Dairy, Mickelberry’s Meat Packing Plant, managed the Teen Hop restaurant, helped her husband start and operate their businesses, Jerry’s Town & Country Furniture Store, Rushville Kawasaki and Thurman’s Lamp and Table. She also worked with her son’s business, Jon’s Carpet Center.

She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for many years.

Services were held Sunday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville, with Reverend John Sowers officiating. Burial followed in Rushville City Cemetery.
