Dr. James TippettDr. James F. Tippett, 86, of Astoria died at 9:40 a.m. Sept. 25, 2008, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born July 26, 1922, in East St. Louis, Ill., a son of Franklin and Marie Girard Tippett. He married Mary Ella Douglass on Nov. 18, 1951, in Hot Springs, Ark. She died June 30, 2008.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathryn Pace and Ruth Petersen; and one brother, Alex Tippett.
Surviving are one son, Mark (and Jill) Tippett of Lewistown; one grandson, Tyler Tippett of East Peoria; and one granddaughter, Lauren Tippett of Lewistown.

He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and Korean Conflict.

He was a doctor of chiropractic medicine for many years. He also worked as a custodian for Astoria CUSD #1 for several years and worked at Sargeant’s Western Wear in Macomb.

He graduated from Palmer School of chiropractic medicine in Davenport, Iowa.

He was a scout master for Astoria Boy Scout Pack #105, member of Astoria United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.

Services were held Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Beth Nelson officiating. Inurnment was in Astoria Cemetery with military rites conducted by Astoria Legion Post #25.

Memorials may be made to Astoria Gardens activity fund.
