Vernon C. Thomson, 86, of Table Grove died at 5:55 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, at Wesley Village in Macomb.

He was born March 8, 1918, in Galesburg, a son of Vernon Hale and Winifred Cox Thomson. He married Esmarelda Tatham on Nov. 9, 1940, in Table Grove. She died Oct. 24, 2003.

He also was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Reimuller.

Surviving are one son, Vernon Jr. of Vermont; and one brother, William (and Helen) of Table Grove.

He was a World War II Navy veteran with a rank of lieutenant, serving in the South Pacific.

He and his brother owned and operated Thomson Brothers farm equipment sales in Table Grove from 1948 to 1970. He later became Fulton County Supervisor of Assessments, retiring in 1998.

He also was a former Table Grove village trustee.

He was a 1939 graduate of Knox College in Galesburg, where he played football and was affiliated with Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Services will be private with Rev. Walter Zorn officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Harris Cemetery in Table Grove, where military rites will be conducted by Table Grove American Legion Post 413 and Astoria American Legion Post 25. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
