ESMARELDA T. (TATHAM) THOMSON

Esmarelda Thomson

Esmarelda T. Thomson, 86, of Table Grove died at 4:37 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

She was born Aug. 30, 1917, in McDonough County, a daughter of Glenn and Anna Hunter Tatham. She married Vernon Cox Thomson on Nov. 9, 1940, in Table Grove. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, Vernon C. Jr. of Vermont; and one sister, Mrs. I. Jay Schiff of Los Angeles.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Glen Hunter Tatham.

She was a 1934 graduate of Table Grove High School and a 1938 graduate of the Galesburg Cottage Hospital School of Nursing. She was a resident nurse at the infirmary at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. She served on the faculty of Graham Hospital School of Nursing in Canton for over 30 years, serving as director of admissions and registrar. She was a charter member of the Table Grove Community Church.

She was an original member and the first director of the William L. Hipsley Trust Board and a member of the Illinois Chapter C of the PEO Sisterhood in Vermont. She was a member of the Fort Dearborn Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Evanston.

She was a founder of the Table Grove Squares Inc., which is now part of the Table Grove Development Group, a former member of the Fulton County Historical and Genealogical Society, a former member of the Fulton County Bicentennial Commission, a former member of the Western Illinois League of Nursing, a former member of the VIT Board of Education and worked as a pollster for the Gallop Poll during World War II.

Services were held Sunday at Table Grove Community Church with Rev. Ed Barrett officiating. Burial was in Harris Cemetery in Table Grove. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements.
