Karen Jean Threw, 54, of Canton died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Graham Hospital.

She was born Jan. 16, 1947, in Macomb, the daughter of Raymond Merrill and Hildred Viola Furnace Thompson. She married John A. "Jack" Threw on July 25, 1970, in Adair. He died Oct. 10, 1992, in rural Canton.

She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are one aunt, Dorothy Webb of Canton; and six cousins, including Sue Althiser of Ipava, Linda Clapper of Cuba, Jan McElvain of Kewanee and Randi Knoll of Danvers.

She was an elementary music teacher for Lewistown Consolidated Union School District 97 for more than 30 years, last working in October 2000.

She was the organizer and first president of the Humane Society of Fulton County.

She was a charter member and past regent of Amaquonsippi Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Canton, where services were held today at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Curtis Keith, Rev. Larry Reinke and Arden Keen officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Fulton County or to her church.
