Robert ThompsonRobert G. Thompson, 79, of Sulphur, La., formerly of Lewistown, died at 3:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in Sulphur.

He was born June 13, 1921, in Lewistown, a son of Otis Deloss and Elsie Helms Thompson. He married Mary Katherine Mikrut on Feb. 19, 1955, in Peoria. She died Jan. 20, 1980.

Surviving are one daughter, Janice Prater of Sulphur; one son, Steven of Manhattan, Kan.; one brother, Raymond of Milan; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A life member of Lewistown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5001, he was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the transportation field and the military police.

He was a farmer, coal miner, mechanic and construction worker. After retiring, he moved to Sulphur, where he worked as a groundskeeper for local parks.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria where visitation will be two hours before. Rev. James Shirley will officiate. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery in Astoria.
