VeteranGilbert Thompson Of Vermont Dies

Gilbert C. Thompson, 69, of Vermont, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 1990, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Canton, Mo., a son of John and Mabyn Gilbert Thompson. He married Barbara Heaton on Feb. 1, 1947, in Quincy. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, David and Dan, both of Macomb; one daughter, Terry Thompson-Honig of West Los Angeles, Calif.; and one brother, Robert Thompson of the Philippines.

He lived his early childhood in the Canton, Mo. and Quincy areas. He worked at the McDonough County Rural Electric Co-op and McGraw-Edison. He was a deputy sheriff for Fulton County for 12 years, retiring June 1987. He served in the Army in the European Theater during World War II.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Rev. Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.
