Thelma J. Shawgo, 92, of Wayland, Mo., passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 8:46 a.m. April 4, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.Thelma J. Shawgo, 92, of Wayland, Mo., passed away peacefully surrounded by family at 8:46 a.m. April 4, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She was born Dec. 27, 1931, in Concord, a daughter of Elmer and Argretta McDanald Laughary. She married Max Shawgo on Nov. 19, 1949, in Jacksonville. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1972.
She also was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and Mark Shawgo; one daughter, Lynnette Parson; and one sister, June Nunes.
Surviving are two sons, Max (and Penny) Shawgo Jr. of Marcelline and Mitchell (and Ginger) Shawgo of Astoria; two daughters, Sandra Haist of Wayland, Mo., and Janice (and Tony) Shuman; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She retired from Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville as a LPN in 1996.
Services were held Sunday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial was in the Summum Cemetery.
