Mike ShawgoMichael “Mike” E. Shawgo, 64, of Astoria died at 12:58 a.m. Jan. 24, 2016, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

He was born July 6, 1951, in Canton, a son of Max and Thelma Loughary Shawgo. He married Marilyn Hammond on May 29, 1990, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Michelle (and Rodney) Schisler of Corbin, Ky., Stephanie (and Jeremy) Polley of Maysville, Ky., Anissa (and Matt) Plummer of East Peoria and Alisha (and Casey) Morrow of Peoria; one son, Michael James Brian (and Susan) Shawgo of Ripley, Ohio; his mother of Hamilton; three sisters, Lynnette (and Dan) Parson of Denver, Ill., Sandra (and Jerry) Haist of Macomb and Janis (and Tony) Shuman of Hamilton; two brothers, Max (and Penny) Shawgo of Mendon and Mitchell (and Ginger) Shawgo of Astoria; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Mark Shawgo; and his father.

He was a graduate of Triopia High School in Concord.

He worked at Caterpillar in Peoria, was an over-the-road trucker for Star Trucking and worked at Gorsuch Appliance. He then went to work for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 20 years, working as a Bridge Tender at the Franklin Street Bridge in Peoria and when closed, was transferred to Fulton County and worked as a Highway Maintainer and MMI, retiring in 2008.

He was a founding member of the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee, Wis. He was a member of the Astoria Fire and Rescue Squad, working as an EMT. He was a member of the Teamsters and coached his children’s youth ball teams.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Wes Hendricker officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Summum Cemetery.
