Barbara SayersBarbara Jean Sayers, 87, of Rushville died at 3:30 p.m. May 7, 2023, at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Beardstown, the daughter of Frances Starky “Tony” and Mary Wood Phelps. She married George Robert Sayers on Feb. 14, 1954, in Beardstown.

Surviving are one son, David (and Chris) Sayers of rural Browning; one daughter, Toni Diane (and Mark Cwik) Sayers of Mount Pleasant, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was the last of the old guard farm families in West Central Illinois. She worked for the State of Illinois and helped her husband on their farm. She was a lunch lady and sold Watkins products to the neighbors, she also worked as a school secretary, insurance company, real estate and a tax assessor.

She was a member of the Band Boosters, active in the local 4-H Club Mudvalley Luckies and belonged to the Schuyler County Farm extension office. She also was involved with Western Illinois University and hosted many foreign students at her house.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Brother Matt Haberman officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ridgeville Cemetery near Browning. Visitation will be held from 8-10 a.m. before the service on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to the Ridgeville Cemetery Memorial Fund.
