He was born June 24, 1935, in Ipava, a son of Harry and Mary Madtson Stoops. He married Barbara Ann Lindbloom on Oct. 26, 1958, in Canton. She preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 2003.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Kost and Catherine Maria Stoops.
Surviving are his children, Lynn Stoops of Acworth, Ga., Debra (and Robert) Chasteen of Lewistown, Bruce (and Angie) Stoops of Quincy, Connie (and John) Roberts of Pawnee and Brian (and Kim) Stoops of Carlinville; and nine grandchildren.
He retired from Caterpillar in 1992, and had been a Fulton County Farm Bureau member for at least 50 years.
Services were held Tuesday. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Ipava Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the National Farm Toy Museum in Dyersville, Iowa, and the Ipava Fire and Rescue Squad.
