Richard ScottRichard Arlyn Scott, 92, of Bushnell died April 13, 2022, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Sept. 21, 1929, in rural Rushville, the son of John C. and Ada Irene Ward Scott. He married Elizabeth Neff in 1959, in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Julia (and Dr. Martin) Gleason of Fairfield, Iowa; one grandson, Dr. Scott (and Heather) Gleason of Burlington, Iowa, and their children, Gavin and Grant; and one granddaughter, Emily (and Lucas) Helling and their children, Owen and Everly of Fairfield, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia.

He earned his masters degree from Western in 1962.

He attended the Ridgeville Country School for six years, four years at Browning and two years at Astoria, graduating in 1947. During the years of 1951-53, he served in the Korean War as a signal corps radio repairman, being honorably discharged in 1953 as a sergeant.

After college graduation, he began his teaching career teaching Biology at Bushnell-Prairie City High School, where he taught for 31 years. Affectionately known as “Doc Scott” by students and colleagues at B-PC, he taught biology, general science, physiology, psychology and sponsored the science club and a photography club. From 1965-69, he worked as a ranger naturalist during the summers at Yellowstone National Park. For 17 years, he served on the Bushnell Library Board.

After retiring from teaching in 1988, his interest in photography continued when he established Scott’s Photography.

Funeral services were held Monday at Bushnell Presbyterian Church with Pastor Mark Merrill officiating. Burial was in the Bushnell Township Cemetery. Morton-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Bushnell Rescue Squad or the Bushnell-Prairie City High School for the Richard Scott Science Scholarship.
