John SlatonJohn Conrad Slaton, 99, of Rushville died at 5 a.m. April 8, 2022, at Country Gardens in Rushville.

He was born April 29, 1922, in Dandridge, Tenn., the son of Joseph Porter and Minnie Anne Cox Slaton. He married Barbara Cowles on July 29, 1947, near New Market, Tenn. She preceded him in death on June 19, 2018.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Norman Dean Slaton.

Surviving are three sons, Phillip (and Donna) Slaton of Galesburg, Stuart (and Helen) Slaton of Jacksonville and Douglas Slaton of Knoxville; one daughter, Pamela Hill of Macomb; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was a World War II Army Veteran who served from Oct. 10, 1942, to Nov. 11, 1945.

He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1948 and received a Masters Degree in 1970 from the University of Illinois in agronomy. He was a University of Illinois Extension service advisor for 36 years. He was a charter member of the Rushville Lions Club.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. David Haney officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery with military honors by Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and a U.S. Army Honors Detail. Visitation will be held from noon to the time of services.
