Douglas ShawgoDouglas S. Shawgo, 63, of Plant City, Fla., died at 6:56 a.m. Aug. 18, 2021, at South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City.

He was born June 8, 1958, in Havana, a son of Bernard C. and Donna J. Wilson Shawgo. He married Lori Becker on May 11, 1980, in Beaver City, Neb. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Greg (and Victoria) Shawgo of Plant City; one daughter, Teresa (and Kris) Decker of Louisville, Ky.; his father, Bernard C. Shawgo of Astoria; one sister, Cindy (and Hollis) Shafer of Germantown Hills; one brother, Jeff (and Sonya) Shawgo of Astoria; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna J. Shawgo on April 29, 2021.

He was a graduate of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. He was a schoolteacher and coach for over 18 years, teaching at Avon Community Schools in Avon and Steeleville Community Schools in Steeleville. In 1998, he left the teaching field and joined the family business, Shawgo Memorial Home, and was a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 15 years. He was working for the Heath Funeral Home in Lakeland, Fla., as a Pre-Planning Specialist at the time of his passing.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Dan Benitez officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
