Les SwitzerLeslie “Les” Eugene Switzer Jr, 67, of Macomb died at 12:40 a.m. June 27, 2021, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born Nov. 9, 1953, in Crawfordsville, Ind., a son of Leslie and Delores Stockdale Switzer.

Surviving are two children, Lauren (and Jimmie Koller) Switzer of Macomb and Derek (and Kayla) Switzer of Washington, Ill.; two sisters, Carolyn Shutter of Ipava and Pat Thomas of Macomb; one brother, Brian Switzer of Macomb; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Tammy Switzer.

His business ventures started at a young age, which included mowing lawns for $0.50/hr. and detailing cars at the Ipava gas station. He graduated from VIT High School in 1972, received multiple football scholarship offers, and graduated from Illinois College in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He worked at Bill’s Regulator in Jacksonville while in college and with his dad at Tingley Products of Ipava after graduating. He bought the Regulator II (Macomb) in 1982 and was a prominent businessman for the 40 years that followed — most notably being the owner of the Regulator, Rocky’s Bar and Grill, the Sargent building, and other commercial and residential rental properties.

He was a member of the Presbyterian faith, Masonic Lodge and Macomb Chamber of Commerce. He was involved at Western Illinois University in many capacities as a local businessman, taking great pride in being the head sponsor of the annual WIU Athletics golf outing, being a member of the Leatherneck Club and presenting the Holiday Tournament’s All-Tournament team.

Funeral services will be held privately at the Ipava Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home in Macomb.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital of Peoria, American Lung Association: Stop Smoking or to the donor’s choice.
