Marion "Tom" SwanMarion Thomas “Tom” Swan, 57, of Rushville died at 9:33 a.m. Jan. 2, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

He was born June 14, 1963, in Beardstown, a son of Jake and Myrtle Bell Swan. He married Lori Thompson on Nov. 15, 1981, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Jack Hulslander III (and companion Charity Ferendzo) of Marissa, Nicole Quinn of Macomb and Amanda (and Brian) Friday of Springfield; one brother, John (and Debbie) Swan of Beardstown; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Albert, Jacob, Wayne, Ronnie and Donnie Swan; and two sisters, Sally Nash and Pearl Hickox.

He first worked for 11 years at Excel in Beardstown before becoming the caretaker at Schuy-Rush Park for three years. He drove a truck for Bartlow Brothers. He also worked as a dispatcher and jailer at the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office. He next drove a truck for DOT Foods. His last job he worked was driving a truck and pouring concrete for Clinard Trucking in Mount Sterling.

He served as a volunteer on the Beardstown and Rushville Fire departments and as Chief of the Beardstown Rescue Squad. He also was a member of the Schuyler County Sheriff Auxiliary officers. He owned and operated a DJ Service and a food stand that would serve at local parades.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with David Haney officiating. Burial will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery. The wearing of mask and social distancing will be required for the attendance of the service.
