Harold "Bub" StephensHarold Eugene “Bub” Stephens, 92, of Rushville died at 5 p.m. Dec. 29, 2018, at the Wesley Village Retirement Center in Macomb.

He was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Schuyler County, a son of Carter and Madeline Settles Stephens. He married Donna Ruth Dace on July 14, 1944. She preceded him in death on July 5, 2018.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Donald.

Surviving are three children, Bill (and Diana) Stephens of Macomb, Nancy J. Stephens Constance Sanders of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Julie A. (and Susan) Stephens Murray of Rolla, Mo.; two brothers, Richard Stephens of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Gordon (and Rosemary) Stephens of Rushville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He entered the U.S. Army on July 18, 1944. He served in the 5th Division of Patton’s 3rd Army. He served in the front lines as they went through France, Belgium Luxembourg, Southern Germany, into Czechoslovakia. He was discharged June 26, 1946. Returning to Rushville, he got a job at the post office in Rushville and ended up spending his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He retired as the post master in Havana at age 55.

He was a member of Rushville First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Scripps Park golf course until age 92. His fellow golfers installed a fountain in one of the lakes at the course in his and Donna’s honor. He was an active member of Schuyler American Legion Post #4.

Services will be announced by the Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville at a later date.
