Doyle Smith

Doyle J. Smith, 74, of rural Lewistown died at 9:33 p.m. Dec. 9, 2015, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born March 17, 1941, in Canton, a son of Harley D. and Louise F. DeFord Smith. He married Michelene Novak on April 12, 1965, in Warrensburg, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, David (and Rebecca) Smith of London, Ky.; one daughter, Katherine (and Jarrod) Beverly of Springfield, Ohio; two brothers, Donald L. (and Sharon) Smith of Ipava and Robert (and Nina) Smith of Lewistown; one sister, Sharon (and Murray) Swenson of Higbee, Mo.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He worked at IH Navistar at the Canton plant and retired from the Springfield, Ohio, plant.

He was a veteran and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1960-64.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lewistown. He also was a member of Canton VFW Post 1984 where he was past commander and past district commander.

Funeral services were held Sunday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Larry Wright officiating. Burial was in Apple Cemetery in rural Lewistown where a military service was conducted by Canton VFW Post 1984.
