Louise Smith

Louise F. Smith, 81, of Canton died at 8:55 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 20, 1922, in Bernadotte Township, a daughter of Jeff and Mary Jennings DeFord. She married Harley D. Smith on Aug. 14, 1940, in Kahoka, Mo. He died Aug. 13, 2002.

She also was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are three sons, Doyle (and Mickey) of Tucson, Ariz., Donald (and Sharon) of Ipava and Robert (and Nina) of Lewistown; one daughter, Sharon (and Murray) Swenson of Springfield, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale "Buck" DeFord of Monmouth and Walter "Tuck" DeFord of Galesburg; and two sisters, Beatrice Davis of Galesburg and Shirley Tracey of Big Sandy, Tenn.

She was a member of the Elks Lodge 626, a member and past president of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1984 Auxiliary and was active in bowling leagues at Four Seasons Bowl.

Services were held Saturday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Sue Roat officiating. Burial was in Apple Cemetery in rural Lewistown.

Memorials may be made to Spoon River Hospice or the Canton Elks Food Basket.
