Robert SpencerRobert Richard Spencer, 88, of Beardstown, formerly of Lewistown, died at 6:44 a.m. Nov. 27, 2015, at Heritage Manor Health Center in Beardstown.

He was born June 10, 1927, near Findlay, in Shelby County, a son of Clarence R. and Lois Pearl Reedy Spencer. He married Barbara A. Smith on Oct. 23, 1948, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Melody (and Dan) Smith of Branson, Mo.; two sons, Robert D. (and Ruth) Spencer of Knoxville, Tenn., and Daryl Spencer of Orange Beach, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Spencer Jr.; and one sister, Lois Smith.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a farmer and worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 20 years.

He was a non-denominational Christian.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. Jeffrey Vogelzang and Mr. Kenion Coleman officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery with Military Honors by a U.S. Army Honors Detail and Schuyler American Legion Post #4.
