Lelin E. “Catfish” Sargent, 71, of Rushville died at 12:33 p.m. May 11, 2014, at his home.

He was born July 24, 1942, in Rushville, a son of Henry James and Maxine Vaughn Sargent. He first married Sarah Jane Potts in 1970 in Beardstown. He later married Betty (Bedenbender) Wenger in 1994 in Rushville.

Surviving are two daughters, Shayla Sargent of Springfield and Lynn Sargent of Portland, Ore.; his mother, Maxine Sargent of Rushville; one brother, Leslie (and Diana) Sargent of Stillwater, Okla.; and four sisters, Joyce (and Terry) Williams and Donna Sargent, both of Rushville, Janet Shelts of Jacksonville and Doris (and Cecil) Vancil of Bushnell.

He was a 1960 graduate of Rushville High School and served in the U.S. Air Force, Illinois Air National Guard 183rd Tactical Fighter Group from Nov. 27, 1963, until Nov. 26, 1969. He began farming after graduation from high school until his entry into the service. He then worked for Jim Edwards and Son in Rushville. From 1970-94, he worked for Central Illinois Harvestor in Jacksonville. He later farmed and worked construction for Jim Wheelhouse Construction in Rushville, retiring in 2003.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend J. William Werner officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery.
