Henry SargentHenry James Sargent, 87, of Rushville died at 3:10 p.m. April 10, 2008, at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville.

He was born July 26, 1920, in Bainbridge Township, Schuyler County, a son of Carl H. and Edna Haber Sargent. He married Pearl Maxine Vaughn on Aug. 28, 1941, in Camden. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Lelin Sargent of Rushville and Leslie (and Diana) Sargent of Stillwater, Okla.; four daughters, Joyce (and Terry) Williams and Donna Sargent, both of Rushville, Janet Shelts of Meredosia and Doris (and Cecil) Vancil of Bushnell; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Florine Corrie; and two brothers, Russell Sargent and an infant.

He was a 1938 graduate of Rushville High School. He worked for a short time at Bartlow Brothers in Rushville before he began to farm in the White Oak neighborhood. He also worked with Major Ward as a carpenter. He retired from farming in 2003.

He was a White Oak School director and a member of First United Methodist Church in Rushville.

Services were held Monday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Paul and Rev. Mary Arnold officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery.
