Lawrence SherwoodLawrence I. Sherwood, 92, of Lewistown died at 9:22 p.m. Oct. 13, 2012, at Sunset Manor in Canton.

He was born Jan. 5, 1920, in Canton Township, Fulton County, a son of William and Mary Miller Sherwood. He married Thelma M. Gregory on Oct. 18, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo. She preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 2010.

He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Hines and Mary Jane Sherwood; three brothers; and one infant sister.

Surviving are two sons, Larry (and Karen) Sherwood of Chino Hills, Calif., and Leon (and Linda) Sherwood of Lewistown; one daughter, Thelma Downey of Coronado, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; one step grandchild; 21 great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

He was a farmer and also retired from Keystone Steel and Wire in Bartonville with 35 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant with the 9th Bomb Group during World War II.

He attended Lewistown United Methodist Church.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Deryck Sonaram officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home.
