GILBERT D. “BUCK” STAMBAUGH

Gilbert D. "Buck" Stambaugh, 76, of Cuba died at 1:06 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born March 2, 1926, in Summum, a son of Charles Dock and Irene Gilson Stambaugh. He married Juanita Burrows on April 16, 1949, in Lewistown.

Surviving are one son, Orson "Butch" (and Viva) of rural Cuba; two daughters, Shirley (and Nathan) Engle of Ipava and Dawn Stambaugh of Smithfield; three half-brothers, Keith and Thomas, both of Canton, and Donald of Cuba; one sister, Rosalie Martin of Canton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in France and Germany.

He was a lifetime member of Lewistown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5001, the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans of Canton and the Ipava American Legion Post.

A member of the Local 649 Operating Engineers, he was a heavy equipment operator in the Fulton County area for 20 years.

He also was a car dealer for many years.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Rev. Todd Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown, where military rites will be accorded by his VFW and American Legion posts.

Memorials may be made to Lewistown VFW Post 5001.
