Georgia A. Skiles, 79, of rural Browning died at 11:23 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

She was born Feb. 22, 1923, in Fulton County, a daughter of Harve Cleveland and Jessie Robison Slaight. She married Benjamin Butler Skiles on May 10, 1947, in Rushville. He died Jan. 20, 1977.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Erik; one brother; and one sister.

Surviving are three daughters, Janeen Kilpatrick of League City, Texas, Barbara Langley of Blue Grass, Iowa, and Lissa Skiles-Walchuk of San Diego; one sister, Lois Dunn of Galesburg; and five grandchildren.

She was a World War II Navy veteran of the WAVES, with whom she trained pilots.

She taught school at Browning, South Fulton School District and Lewistown for several years and was a member of the Fulton County Retired Teachers Association.

She had been a volunteer at the Astoria Public Library.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star of Astoria.

She was a member of Sheldons Grove United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Marian Stone officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to her church.
