William Smith Jr.

William Earl Smith Jr., 70, of Vermont died at 12:38 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 15, 1931, in LaBelle, Mo., a son of Earl and Ruby Mullahuser Smith. He married Beulah Caldona on Sept. 20, 1952. She died in March 1980.

He also was preceded in death by one child, one great-grandchild, two brothers and one sister.

Surviving are one son, Gene of Vermont; five daughters, Nancy (and Leroy) Baker of Donnellson, Iowa, Penny (and John) Wade of Galesburg, Cindy (and Randy) Hale of Alexis, Judy (and Jerry) Tilton of Vermont and Peggy (and Bob) McKencie of Canton; 10 brothers, Donald, Charles, Joe, Ted, Henry, Tom, Russell, Marvin, Jim and George; five sisters, Irene, Margaret, Peggy, Lucille and Loretta; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He worked at the Vermont Foundry for 30 years and at Excel Corp. in Beardstown for seven years.

Cremation has been accorded. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Coatsburg Cemetery in Coatsburg with John Wade officiating. Kost Memorial Home in Vermont is in charge of arrangements.
