Jerry TiltonJerry L. Tilton, 76, of Vermont died at 7:23 p.m. Aug. 19, 2017, at his home.

He was born Dec. 6, 1940, in Macomb, a son of Wayman and Ruby Tharpe Tilton. He married Judy Smith on March 27, 1984, in Vermont. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Jeremy (and Lindsay) Tilton of Ipava; two daughters, Gina Tilton of Vermont and Michelle (and Jerry) Bannan of Washington, Ill.; one brother, Gary (and Vivian) Tilton of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Cassandra Comstock and Angela Thornton.

He was a surgical assistant at St. Francis Hospital in Macomb. He also worked for MetLife Insurance, Webster Bag Factory, Vermont Hardware and he farmed.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving at the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton, Calif., from October 1958-61.

He was a graduate of Macomb High School. He served as the mayor of Vermont, was a 4-H leader and a member of the Vermont American Legion Post #26.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Vermont Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Shawgo Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
