James SoseyJames L. Sosey, 72, of Lewistown died at 2:52 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Graham Hospital Extended Care in Canton.

He was born July 6, 1930, in Cuba, the son of Charles T. and Lena E. Smart Sosey. He married Barbara JoAnn Clifford on June 14, 1958, in Lewistown. She died Jan. 11, 1993.

Surviving are one son, Charles "Chuck" (and Rhonda) Sosey of Lewistown; two granddaughters; one sister, Carol Jean (and Gene) Miller of Ipava; and a special friend, Rita Jones of Astoria.

A veteran, he served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955 and was a member of Lewistown American Legion Post 1.

He worked as a tipple superintendent at Union Electric Coal Mine in Cuba for 10 years. He later was a self-employed contractor from 1968 until retiring in 1992.

He was a former director of Spoon River Electric Cooperative and formerly served on the Fulton County Fair Board.

He was a 1958 graduate of Bradley University.

A 50-year member and past master of Lewistown Lodge 104, AF&AM, he also was a member of Mohammed Temple, Shrine; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria; Canton Moose Lodge; and the American Association of Retired Persons.

He was a member and former trustee of Lewistown United Methodist Church.

Services were held Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. Terry Westerfield officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
