MADELYN D. (FOSTER) SKILES

Madelyn Skiles

Madelyn D. Skiles, 77, of Astoria, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, at 10:25 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born July 16, 1922, in Macomb, a daughter of Zelotes Dixon and Goldie Marie Walker Foster. She married Leland J. Skiles on June 6, 1944, in Alexandra, La. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Landa Skiles of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Kenton (Robin) Shawgo of Astoria; one sister, Mrs. Jack (Leola) Anderson of Astoria; one brother, B.D. (Faith) Foster of Havana; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Astoria, Past Matron of the Ipava Order of the Eastern Star Lodge #226 and the Astoria American Legion Auxiliary.

For a brief period, she taught in the Astoria rural schools. She was a partner in Skiles Fertilizer in Astoria for 50 years.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Order of Eastern Star services at 8 p.m. Services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the memorial home. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to her church or to the Astoria Township Cemetery Association.
