Milton F. Selph Dies At Age 80

Milton F. Selph, 80, of St. Augustine died at 8:20 p.m. Monday, March 5, 1990, in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg.

He was born Aug. 31, 1909, in Attica, Kan., the son of Stewart and Nellie (Brooks) Selph. He married Alene Ryan in Abingdon on Nov. 4, 1930. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Dale of Table Grove; two daughters, Phyllis Sublett and Martha Bodenhamer, both of St. Augustine; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are four foster children, Dorothea Selph of Cuba, Kathy VanVelsor and Debbie Boydstun, both of Galesburg, and Mary Lutz of Sciota; six foster grandchildren; and two foster great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Reared in the London Mills-Herman area, he had lived in the St. Augustine area the past 50 years, where he farmed. He formerly attended the Christian Church in Herman.

He also was a former road commissioner of Indian Point Township for eight years, and worked in maintenance for the State of Illinois for 17 years before retiring in October of 1986.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Larson Funeral Home in Abingdon with Rev. Charles Witte officiating. Burial was in Abingdon Cemetery.
