Ruth Runkle

Ruth RunkleRuth M. Runkle, 93, of Littleton died at 1 a.m. July 19, 2017, at her home.

She was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Macomb, a daughter of Chester Brooks and Tennie Annie Gray Hillyer. She married Francis Eugene Runkle on Dec. 19, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 2003.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Dick Runkle; one daughter, Clara Mae Curtis; one great-grandson, Ryan L. Jones; three brothers, Keith Hillyer, Russell Hillyer and C.B. Hillyer Jr.; and three sisters, Ruby Trone, Shirley Runkle and Geneva Martin.

Surviving are eight grandchildren, Rick (and Kathy) Jones, Kevin Runkle and Greg (and Amanda) Runkle, all of Littleton, Lea Ann (and Doug) Evans of Mount Sterling, Kay (and Monty) Smith and Tom McMurren, both of Rushville, and Hank Bennett and Jeff Bennett, both of Canton; 17 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.

She was a member of Littleton United Methodist Church and was a life-long farm wife and homemaker. She cleaned houses and had been a waitress at the Littleton Cafe.

Funeral services were held Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. David Haney officiating. Burial was in Littleton Cemetery.
