Dexter RittenhouseDexter Lee Rittenhouse, 93, of Beardstown, formerly of Rushville, died at 4:10 p.m. Feb. 4, 2015, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born Aug. 11, 1921, on the family farm in Buena Vista Township, Schuyler County, a son of Robert S. and Tressa Bartlow Rittenhouse. He married Shirley Jones on Feb. 19, 1949, in Danville. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2014.

He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynette Rittenhouse; and one brother, Randall Rittenhouse.

Surviving are one son, Thomas Lee (and Debbie) Rittenhouse of Weldon; and two sisters, Roberta Rittenhouse and Almeda (and Don) Runkle, both of Quincy.

He served in U.S. Navy from September, 1942 to December, 1945, as an Aviation Radioman 2nd Class.

He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Rushville. He also was a member of Elks Lodge and Schuyler American Legion Post #4 for 70 years.

He raised cattle and was a grain farmer all his life.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service was held Sunday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. John Sowers officiating.

Memorials may be made to Schuyler Post #4 American Legion or Culbertson Memorial Hospital. Burial will be in the spring at Rushville City Cemetery with military honors. The date will be announced.
