Robert RobertsRobert W. “Bob” Roberts, 78, of Rushville died at 4:35 a.m. July 19, 2010, at Culbertson Long Term Care Facility in Rushville.

He was born Feb. 2, 1932, south of Littleton, a son of Willis Franklin and Fern Mildred Butcher Roberts. He married Betty J. Cox on June 16, 1956, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are two brothers, Billy Dean (and Vivian) Roberts of Huntsville and L. Steven Roberts of Dallas City; two sisters, Betty Jean Toland of Industry and Patricia Ann Thompson of Normal; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Paralee Joan Terrell.

He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1956.

He was a graduate of Rushville High School.

He first worked as an automobile mechanic and truck driver for Bartlow Brothers in Rushville. He later worked at the Beardstown and Jacksonville airports. He worked as an aircraft mechanic and flight instructor with Martin Aviation in Carthage for five years, retiring Dec. 31, 1997.

He was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post #4, Rushville Flying Club and Late Night Cruiser’s Car Club.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Steve Pichaski officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy Burial Detail and Schuyler American Legion Post #4. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
