Mark ParkinsMark Wayne Parkins, 93, of Brazil, Ind., died June 13, 2023, at his daughter’s home in Joplin, Mo.

He was a son of Chauncey and Consuelo Parkins. He married Evelyn McDonald on Sept. 10, 1950. She preceded him in death.

He also was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Parkins; and four sisters, Wynemah Dickerson, Lois McGlosson, Sue Edwards and Jean Hoffman.

Surviving are three daughters, Darla Scherb, Julia (and Jim) Miller and Ruth (and Kevin) Ebersohl; two sons, Jerry (and Carol) Parkins and Mark (and Charlene) Parkins; 28 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Staunton High School with the class of 1948. He served his country for 37 years in the United States Naval Reserves.

He worked for GM Allison’s in Indianapolis and Wentzville, Mo., and also had worked in the coal mines in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Kentucky before retiring. After retirement, he worked for Bob Romas in Brazil.

He was a member of Grace Chapel, American Legion Post 2, Veterans of Foreign War Post 1127, Centennial Lodge 541, where he was a 50-year member, and OES Brazil Chapter #80. He was a lifelong member of both the Jackson Township Band and the Brazil Concert Band, where he played the Sousaphone.

Services were held Saturday at French Funeral Home in Brazil, Ind., with Pastor Tim Russell officiating. Masonic services also were held. Burial with military honors was held at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
